Meersbrook Hall & Heeley Development Trust

Considering the future of a neighbourhood park and associated hall, with the aim of bringing it into community management.

Meersbrook Hall is a Grade II listed building in Meersbrook Park, Sheffield that has been used as offices by Sheffield City Council for many years. When the Council proposed to sell the Hall local people came together to save it for the benefit of the community. As part of DCLG’s COMA programme, the Friends of Meersbrook Hall worked with the Heeley Development Trust and Sheffield City Council in order to consider the future of the Hall and the associated park, with the aim of bringing it into community management.

Shared Assets supported the different partners to consider their objectives for the asset transfer and to consider how they would engage the local community in order to secure support for their proposals and inform the development of a Heritage Lottery Fund bid.

Shared Assets had clear subject specific expertise, a good network, and relevant examples to draw on. They were able to work in a consensus building way and won the trust of group members. - Andy Jackson, Heeley Development Trust
