Emerging Land Voices

In 2020, we worked with Cohere Partners and the Future Narratives Lab to explore the current ways in which land is talked about in popular culture in the UK (you can read the report of that work here). Following on from this, we joined forces with our friends at Land in Our Names and, with funding from the National Lottery Community Fund’s Emerging Futures Fund, began work exploring what the seeds of a new narrative on land would look like.

We held five online workshops with people in some way marginalised from the dominant land system - People of Colour, Travellers, Boaters, small scale food growers, refugees, and more. Together we explored stories of managing and engaging with land through the pandemic, and how this had changed and evolved.

From this work we developed the outline structure of a new narrative on land, introduced by the short film below, and fully detailed on the Future Narratives Lab's website here.

We also developed and delivered training on talking about land stories in the media for people working with land. You can read more about the new narrative here. We are actively working on how to continue this work and are keen to hear from people who’d like to work with us on taking it forward.
